My biking adventures started in 2012…bought a Specialized Vita (hybrid) and hit the trails. After ONE group ride, I was sold on this new sport I had chosen BUT realized that I needed a road bike instead. I immediately upgraded to a Specialized Dolce Sport (Black Magic) and began getting others involved. Our little riding group was growing, loving life on the trails and having the times of our lives…because of all of this fun, Gears and Beers evolved. Rides are organized on a weekly basis, we always try to incorporate fun stops on the trails and the laughs and fun times are priceless.

One of the things I make sure we do is take pictures…stop and enjoy the scenery and photograph those memories. From the pictures, many friends have started taking up biking and constantly remind me of the joy they see in our faces.

In 2013, I decided to try mountain biking…lots of great trails in the greater Des Moines area, I was hooked. I felt like a little kid and the rush was awesome! Once again, decided to upgrade to a 650b Jamis Dragon (Wicked). A year later, a trip to Colorado led to the ride of a lifetime…mountain biking down Pikes Peak! Now, I told myself that was it for bikes, however, after a trip to Decorah and renting a fat bike, I knew I HAD to have a fatty…hence the next addition to the stable…a 2016 Specialized Special Edition Fatboy Comp that I named (Fatboy) Slim Shady. I have truly embraced cycling whether it’s on the pavement, dirt or gravel…and now looking forward to snow! Cycling has made such an impact on my life as well as others that ride in our group. I am totally looking forward to being an FWD ambassador and getting more women involved around my area. Group support is always encouraged, we never leave any rider behind, we always keep safety in mind and strive for more smiles and laughter on every ride.
