FWD Rides

Our Rides
Fearless Women of Dirt in Decorah will have regularly scheduled rides on Wednesdays and Sundays.
There may be other rides hosted by FWD Ambassadors on different days/different times. Those rides will be seen on Facebook as events hosted by Fearless Women of Dirt and Decorah Bicycles.

Our official ride season starts in May and runs thru August.

Wednesday Night Ride: 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The Wednesday Night FWD ride is going to be new and intermediate rider focused, but anyone is welcome to join. This ride is No Drop, which means we will wait at intersections for everyone to catch up. We roll out again once the last person who shows up is ready to go.
This ride is not a Race Pace ride.

We will ride until about 7:00 p.m. then we'll head back to Decorah Bicycles making our end-time close to 7:30 p.m.

FWD Mother/Daughter Rides
These rides are scheduled on two Tuesdays in June and two Tuesdays in July. These rides are focused on easier trails such as River Trail or Van Peenen Pines. The ride will run from approximately 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Riders should meet at the designated trail location starting at 6:45 p.m.

Current schedule for the FWD Mother/Daughter Rides:
June 12th & 26th at 7 p.m.
July 10th & 24th at 7 p.m.

The ride location will be chosen at the time of the event being scheduled on Facebook. If the ride location needs to change due to trail conditions or be cancelled- Josie will send out an email to the group and post the location change/ride cancellation on the Facebook event.

All youth bikes should be in good, mechanical working order. It is recommended that if you want your child to participate in the FWD Mother/Daughter ride to have the bicycle inspected/tuned up prior to joining the ride. This can be done during business hours- keep in mind that the busy season can be busy, so think ahead!

If your child has an appropriate bike, but you do not, contact Josie at josie@decorahbicycles.com to get a rental bike. Josie will meet you at Decorah Bicycles at 6:30 p.m. that Tuesday to get you set up with a rental bike- you will need to be able to transport it to the trail head and back.

Follow FWD - Fearless Women of Dirt on Facebook to stay in touch with the ride events.

Ride Waiver
All riders joining the Fearless Women of Dirt rides will need to sign our Ride Waiver. This waiver will be valid for the 2018 year. Decorah Bicycles will have the Ride Waiver available, or you can click here to print one off and bring it in prior to joining the FWD ride. You can choose to email the Ride Waiver to Josie: josie@deorahbicycles.com

Bike Rental
If you are in need of a mountain bike, plus bike, or fatbike for any of the FWD rides put on by Josie or the Decorah FWD Ambassadors- Decorah Bicycles has rentals available for use.

Rental cost for a quality mountain bike is $20.00 (plus tax) and included with the rental will be the use of a helmet if the ride leader feels the helmet you brought with is not safe or suitable for the ride. This rental cost is valid if you are on a FWD ride with Josie or one of the other Decorah FWD Ambassadors. If you choose to rent a bike outside of a FWD ride with Josie or other Decorah FWD Ambassadors, you will pay regular rental cost.

All mountain bikes rented from Decorah Bicycles are gone thru mechanically and cleaned on a regular basis. These bikes are being provided for you at a reduced cost to make the off-road riding experience more accessible and safe for you. If you want to join a FWD ride, just show up! There will be some type of off-road bike rental available for you to use.

What To Have
For anyone joining a FWD ride, you should have the following items with you to ensure you have an enjoyable experience.

*Hydration- either a water bottle or hydration pack. Water bottle cages are installed on our rental bikes. Hot days=you NEED water.

*Some type of glove, be lightweight full-finger or fingerless. This will aid with you keeping a solid grip on the handlebars if you get sweaty, plus they provide hand protection. We have some tight trees on some of our trails and you can easily find one with a knuckle.

Decorah Bicycles has both glove options available for purchase.

*Appropriate shoes for FLAT pedals if new to riding off-road.
Do not wear "toe-shoes", sandals, Crocs, or anything that is not a tennis shoe, sneaker, or skate shoe. (Look up Five Tens for the FWD-favorite shoe! Decorah Bicycles can order them in, most times next day!)

*A snack, because you never know when you'll need the extra pick-me-up. Bring what works for you, otherwise you can find a wide selection of chews, gels, and Honey Stinger Waffles at Decorah Bicycles.

*Comfortable clothes to ride in that will not restrict movement. Typically we'll wear a jersey or tech-style tee. Padded cycling shorts with or without baggies over top. Some new to cycling (in general) will wear athletic-wear like tights, tanks, etc. Decorah Bicycles has an assortment of cycling clothes and the staff are very happy to give you the ins and outs of padded shorts and other styles of clothing.
-Keep an eye on ride event posts on Facebook. Sometimes there will be suggestions on what to wear based on temperatures/weather conditions.

*Wear sunscreen and during the buggy season, bug spray!

*Sunglasses aren't a bad idea- they help keep bugs and debris out of your eyes!

*A helmet that is under 5 years of age, that can be adjusted properly, and has not sustained an impact.

*A positive attitude!
